Cookie Consent

A consent banner that controls your tags.

A banner that only displays a message does nothing about the tags already firing. We connect consent to what loads on your site, so a visitor's choice changes what happens on the page and in your reports.

From $499

In short

Cookie consent setup means your website asks visitors before loading tracking tags, then respects the answer. Many sites show a banner while Google Analytics and ad pixels load anyway. FIMM audits every tag, installs a consent management platform, wires it to Google Tag Manager and Consent Mode v2, honours opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control, and sets up a French and English banner for Quebec visitors. Setup starts at $499.

What we build

What we build.

A

Tag and cookie audit

We crawl your site and inspect Tag Manager, GA4, ad pixels, chat widgets and embedded media. You get a list of every cookie and tag, what it does and who receives the data.

B

Consent platform setup

Installation and configuration of a consent management platform such as Cookiebot or Usercentrics, with categories that match the tags you actually run.

C

Google Consent Mode v2

Consent states passed to Google tags so analytics and ads follow the visitor's choice. Google requires it for personalized ads and measurement on European Economic Area traffic, and we set it up for other regions too.

D

Opt-out signals and requests

Global Privacy Control detection and a "Do Not Sell or Share" path where US state laws call for one, connected to your tags and forms.

E

Bilingual banner for Quebec

French and English banner text, with tracking off by default for Quebec visitors to reflect Law 25's privacy-by-default rule for tracking technologies.

F

Tag governance and server-side tagging

A clean Tag Manager container with naming, ownership and a review step, plus an optional move to server-side tagging so fewer third-party scripts run in the browser.

G

Data map for your lawyer

A plain record of which tools collect which data and where it goes. Your lawyer uses it to write or update the privacy policy; we do not draft legal text.

How it ships

How a consent setup runs.

We test every consent state in a real browser session, so you can see for yourself that declining tracking actually stops the tags.

01

Check

A scan shows which tags fire before consent and whether your current banner changes anything at all.

02

Audit

A full tag and cookie inventory, mapped to consent categories and the regions your visitors come from.

03

Implement

CMP, Consent Mode v2, GPC handling and the Quebec banner set up, then tested in every consent state.

04

Verify

We confirm tags follow each choice in each region, hand over documentation and recheck after major site changes.

Frequently asked

Common questions.

Does our website need a cookie consent banner?
It depends on where your visitors are and what your site collects. Quebec's Law 25 calls for privacy-protective defaults for tracking technologies, and many US state privacy laws require a way to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data. FIMM provides technical implementation and is not a law firm, so we give no legal advice; your lawyer decides which rules apply to you, and we build what is needed.
What is Google Consent Mode v2?
It is Google's way of passing a visitor's consent choices to Google Analytics and Google Ads tags. Google requires it for personalized ads, remarketing and conversion measurement on traffic from the European Economic Area, together with a consent platform Google accepts. It does not replace a proper banner; it connects the banner to Google's tags.
Which US state privacy laws affect our website?
A growing number of states have comprehensive privacy laws, and California's updated privacy regulations took effect on January 1, 2026. Many of these laws expect businesses to honour opt-out requests, and some recognize signals such as Global Privacy Control. Which laws reach your business depends on thresholds your lawyer can confirm; we make the website handle opt-outs correctly.
We already have a banner. Why would we need this?
Many banners sit on top of a site without being connected to Tag Manager, so tags fire whatever the visitor clicks. Our audit tests what actually loads before and after each choice. If your setup already works, we will tell you so.
Will consent reduce our analytics data?
Some visitors will decline, so you will see fewer recorded sessions. Consent Mode lets Google tools model part of the gap, and server-side tagging can improve data quality for visitors who agree. Tracking people who said no is not the answer.
Do you write our privacy policy?
No. We supply the technical inputs: a data map of the tools, cookies and data flows on your site. Your lawyer uses that to write or update the policy, and we align the banner and tags with it.
How much does a cookie consent setup cost?
Setup starts at $499 for a typical marketing site and includes the tag audit, consent platform configuration, Consent Mode v2 and testing. Any subscription for the consent platform itself is billed to you directly by that vendor.
